TOURETTE Scotland Appoints New Chairperson

Charity organisation Tourette Scotland has appointed a new chairperson.

Broxwood Managing Director, Olav Skretteberg, has been involved with the organisation for over five years.

Olav SkrettebergMr Skretteberg explained: “Broxwood supports a number of worthwhile charities, including Tourette Scotland, and we are always delighted to help where we can. Over the years I personally have also become more involved with Tourette Scotland and, during this time, I have been most impressed by the dedication of the charity in achieving its aim to provide invaluable support to people with Tourette Syndrome and their families.”

Tourette Scotland provides an important support group for people living with the condition, offering an important source of information, advice and practical help to sufferers and their families. They also help to raise awareness and offer training to professionals, the media and the general public.

Affecting 1% of school children, Tourette Syndrome (TS) is a genetic neurological condition which causes involuntary motor tics (twitch-like movements) and vocal tics (involuntary noises).  Often socially stigmatising, Tourettes also brings added challenges to everyday family life. Other conditions associated with TS include Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Developmental Coordination Difficulties (Dyspraxia) and learning difficulties including Dyslexia.

Mr Skretteberg, who brings extensive knowledge from the corporate and philanthropic sectors, continued, “I am delighted to accept the appointment of Chairperson of Tourette Scotland and very much look forward to being part of this invaluable support service. It is my intention that the needs, wishes and aspirations of people with Tourette Syndrome are at the heart of everything we do. In this way we can ensure that the charity continues to perform to high standards and achieves our principal aim of helping to make life better for all those Scottish children and adults who live with Tourettes.”
