Colour and Finishes
Factory varnish, paint or alu-clad in a rainbow of colours
As standard Broxwood timber windows and doors are spray painted on the interior and exterior surfaces. It is also possible to apply different colours to the interior and exterior surfaces; for instance this allows the use of a stain varnish on the interior surface to bring out the natural beauty of the wood. Note: Broxwood does not recommend the use of varnish on the exterior surface as it is far less durable than a paint finish.
Colours can also be specified using the industry standard RAL and NCS colour systems used by architects. If you have a particular paint colour in mind we will translate that into the nearest RAL or NCS colour.
Alu-clad colour finishes – tough and durable
For an even more durable window finish specify aluminium cladding. The aluminium is powder coated to provide a truly resilient, low maintenance finish. The timber behind the cladding is also fully factory finished for ultimate protection and longevity. Alu-clad is supplied standard as white or brown but for an additional charge you may specify any RAL or NCS colour for your order.
I would like to save some money by painting my own windows and doors
Although Broxwood can supply unfinished products ready for you to paint on site but we advise against this practice as it leaves the timber far less protected and unfortunately will compromise your warranty. More to the point, the small saving could cost you far more in maintenance and is likely to reduce the unit’s lifespan.
Factory finished windows are far superior because: -
- All the components are finished prior to the window or door being assembled.
- Factory finishing provides total protection including behind the glazing unit, behind hinges and in all joints.
- The timber has a moisture content of 12% when it is treated which gives a better bonding between wood and stain/paint.
- Bonding between timber paint is reduced by 30%, if the unit is left unpainted in the open for just 2 weeks.
- The treatment protects the product during construction.
- Your warranty is not compromised
So forget the DIY ladder and paintbrush and instead relax in the knowledge that by paying a little bit extra you’ll be saving both time and money for years to come!
