| New RIBA CPD Service Launched In Perth |
|
Broxwood launched an exciting new service in Perth on Wednesday 19 November 2008. The Perth-based bespoke timber windows and doors company has been accredited by the Royal Institute of British Architects to deliver a new Continuing Professional Development service to architects and associated construction professionals throughout the UK. The company has undergone rigorous assessment and developed new courseware in conjunction with the RIBA conforming to strict Core Curriculum CPD guidelines. Initial course dates have already been snapped up by Tayside architects, so a delighted Broxwood have set additional dates to their CPD schedule to increase availability locally. The underlining theme is building for energy efficiency. With Government sights set on new building standards in 2010 and the impending pressure of zero carbon homes by 2016, it is clear to see the pertinence of this latest CPD seminar. Add to this consumer desire to minimise utility bills in light of ever-rising fuel costs and the pressure of choosing the right windows and doors for a property, commercial or domestic, has never been greater. The first introductory seminar will offer a comprehensive and objective guide to modern timber and wood-aluminium solutions and demonstrates how technological advances are transforming today’s glazing products making them more thermally efficient and virtually maintenance free. On the importance of CPD, Minesh Patel, RIBA CPD Manager explained: “CPD obligations exist to help ensure that qualified professionals maintain their competence to practise. This is true in most professions in the UK. At its very basic level, CPD is for consumer protection by ensuring that architects keep up-to-date within a rapidly changing profession but CPD also supports successful career development and personal satisfaction. All chartered members of the RIBA are obliged to do 35 hours of CPD every year, at least 19.5 hours of which must be from RIBA's prescribed Core CPD Curriculum and by successfully going through the accreditation process this seminar is certainly relevant and topical to our members and hopefully to other construction professionals.” Following the company’s RIBA accreditation, Broxwood M.D., Olav Skretteberg, said: “We’re absolutely delighted with this latest success. We’ve worked very hard with the RIBA to meet their stringent expectations and accreditation to the Core Curriculum demonstrates the value of this new training. With rapidly rising energy prices and the threat of global warming, worldwide focus remains robustly on maximising energy efficiency. Broxwood has a great deal of expertise in this area and, in terms of technological development for example, Scandinavian and Austrian products are already leading the field with Passive House compatible products which already outstrip the building regulations envisaged for the UK in the years to come. We’re dedicated to supporting industry colleagues by providing an insight to such cutting edge solutions and are very pleased with the high numbers of course bookings we’ve received thus far.” Open to RIBA, RIAS and CIAT members and related industry professionals, free ‘working lunch’ training sessions will run throughout the year at various UK locations. In-house seminars are also available. For further information about Broxwood’s RIBA Accredited CPD training click here.
