Fast Track Skis for Talented Perth Youngster
A talented Tayside youngster is celebrating Christmas early this week having been presented with new Atomic racing skis as part of an ongoing sponsorship deal with leading bespoke timber windows and doors company, Broxwood (Scotland) Limited.

The top of the range Austrian skis were shipped to the UK especially for Fraser by ski enthusiast Olav Skretteberg, Managing Director of the Perth-based company.

Eleven-year-old skiing sensation, Fraser, is an active member of both Muckhart and Cairngorm ski clubs and has enjoyed increasing success in his sport.

The delivery of the new equipment comes hot on the heels of news that Fraser was successful in securing a six-week bursary for the British Ski Academy in Chamonix further advancing training efforts for the British Championships at Easter.

Broxwood has sponsored Fraser for some time and have supplied two pairs of high-performance skis previously. An avid skier himself, Skretteberg is keen to support Fraser in a way that might advance his clear talent and encourage his ongoing progress in the sport.

On handing over the new skis, Mr. Skretteberg said: “Broxwood is delighted to continue backing Fraser. He has already accomplished a great deal in his sport at such a young age and he is a positive role model for other junior skiers. It’s vital that he receives plenty of support to help his ongoing development and boost his chances of positive achievement in the future. We hope these new state-of-the-art racing skis will help give him that extra edge over the competition and we wish him the best of luck for continued success in 2009 and beyond.”

Fraser, who previously gained added recognition when he was awarded the “Highland Spring Young Sportsperson”, enjoyed a successful season in 2007/8 with achievements including the 1st place in the Scottish Schools minors (under 14s).

The youngster has also had a really good end to this year’s mat season: In August and September Fraser won the LSRA Special Slalom (formerly the Ryden’s Cup), and made a clean sweep in the Bearsden and Bellahousten weekend where he won both days and the Norwegian Cup. He also won this year’s coveted Scottish Indoor Championships.

The High School of Dundee pupil now has his sights set high for the new 2008/9 season.

Fraser said: “I’ve just returned from a week’s intensive Focussed Alpine Scottish Ski Training (FAST) in Tignes, one of Europe’s premier ski destinations in the French Alps. This was a fantastic experience. My performance is definitely boosted by these superb, high-performance skis and I thank Broxwood very much for their continued support. I now plan to enter further international competitions in order to enhance my chances of being selected for the British team.”
