Specialist window and door company Broxwood Ltd have been awarded the stamp of approval for their high-quality Scandinavian timber windows from Secured by Design, enabling them to use the Secured by Design logo on their approved product.

Secured by Design is the UK Police flagship initiative supporting the principles of 'designing out crime'. Their certificated products are Police approved to ensure the best possible protection for the homes and businesses involved.

The main markets that Broxwood supply include schools, housing associations, healthcare, hotel sectors and housing developers. These are all key sectors in which, for a variety of reasons, assurance about the secure design of a building is vital. This award from Secure by Design will now enable customers to specify Broxwood windows with added confidence.

Broxwood chose to submit their products to Secure by Design following customer demand.  Director Olav Skretteberg / Ron MacKelvie said:

'From both the social housing and private sectors customers are asking increasingly for Secured by Design products. Research into this has shown that Secured by Design delivers a very significant level of improvement in security for customers, and clearly this is something we want to support.'

Broxwood submitted their widely specified top hung fully-reversible Scandinavian timber window to a series of rigorous tests, carried out by TRADA.  This included one where someone attempts to break in through the window, using what are effectively burglary tools. By the end of the test “burglary”, the window needs to be fully functional, with locks, glazing and timber all in place. Broxwood’s top-hung fully reversible window passed with flying colours and they are now considering submitting a sash and case equivalent window and French doors to the Secured by Design process.
